Hearing tests are important tests for detacting hearing disorders. They are based on the patient's feedback as to whether they can hear a certain tone or speech.
Types of subjective hearing tests:
Tone audiometry:
Here, the patient is presented with tones of different frequencies and volumes via headphones or bone conduction headphones. The patient indicates when they hear the tone, which allows the individual hearing threshold to be determined.
Speech audiometry:
In this test, words or sentences are spoken at different volumes. The patient must repeat them in order to assess their speech comprehension.
Speech recognition test:
This tests the patient's ability to understand speech from different distances.
Hearing tests for adults
Hearing tests for adults serve to accurately diagnose hearing disorders, tinnitus, or sudden hearing loss. Modern diagnostic methods can precisely determine the extent of hearing loss and initiate targeted therapy or hearing aid fitting to improve quality of life in the long term.

Statutory health insurance companies in Austria cover part of the cost of hearing aids if there is a medical necessity and a prescription from an ENT doctor. The exact amount covered depends on the respective collective agreement or insurance contract with private health insurance companies.
